Juan Fiestas began music lessons at age 7 with his father, José Mercedes in Castilla, Piura Peru. A veteran of the prestigious Lima and Huancayo Folk Festivals where he performed with the group “Hermanos Andinos,” Juan has also participated in the New England Festivals and contests, performing original compositions written by his father José and brother Silverio and winning first prize in all occasions. Juan has performed on two continents, lived in Mexico City and has worked with the Orquesta Sinfonica del Estado de Mexico.
A graduate of the University of Southern Maine, Juan has been on the faculty of the Portland Music Conservatory and The River Tree Arts School of Music in Maine. In Austin, Juan has worked as an orchestra director in various Austin public schools and has completed the teacher certification program at the University of Texas in Austin. In addition to his teaching experience, Juan has worked as a professional violinist as a member of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and the Maine Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Juan holds violin positions in the Waco, Victoria, Corpus Christi and Laredo symphonies and maintains a violin studio in Austin, TX. where he lives with his wife and two kids. |
